The purpose of this site if to delve deep into the comic book and graphic novel world as it exists outside of the Big Two companies: DC and Marvel.

There are over eighty (80!) companies publishing books currently, and we aim to take a look at each of them over the course of this site's existence.

There are some older companies (Dark Horse), and some rather huge companies (Image and IDW) that exist---and thrive--on the margins that we'll be getting to as well.

For every Titan Comics or Boom! Studios, there are plenty of Antarctic Presses and Rothic Books.

Certain categorizing shortcuts will make things easier. Helpful abbreviations:

COC: Creator Owned Content
CU: Cohesive Universe
LP: Licensed Property
EX: Exploitation
GNR: Genre Specific
M: Manga
HM: Humor
REP: Reprints
CS: Creator Specific

When a company catches our eye more than others, like Black Mask or Aftershock, we will add it to our super exclusive "Solid Company" list. (Black Mask and Aftershock are charter Solid Company members.)

Full Disclosure: I loved Valiant Comics back in the '90s, watched their sad decline through Acclaim and on into death, and then, upon returning to comics a few years ago, was shocked to see them resurrected. They have returned to the top of my affections list. I'm a giant Valiant Homer.
